What is Customer Engagement and How To Get More of It?

Getting customer engagement on social media doesn’t need to be hard. With these few tips, you can watch your stats grow with every post!

What is customer engagement and how to get more of it

If you utilize social media for your business (which you should), you have probably heard or read about ‘customer engagement.’ So what is customer engagement? To make it simple, it is when your audience interacts with your posts on social media platforms. Likes, follows, comments, and shares all count as engagement. People seem to believe that achieving good customer engagement levels is impossible. That isn’t true at all. As long as you have the right tools, you can easily create more engaging content. If you are wondering how to increase customer engagement, take a look at these tips and tricks!

Create Engaging Content

Without engaging content, there’s no way you’ll see improved customer engagement on your posts. When you create content, it is important to put yourself in the shoes of your audience; what kind of post would grab your attention and earn a like or a share? Being able to see things from the consumer’s perspective is a crucial customer engagement skill. If you have no idea what your audience would enjoy, how can you possibly create posts that they will happily interact with?

So what exactly makes content engaging?

The graphics or visuals are hugely important. When you scroll through your Facebook or Instagram feed, you probably just scan through the images. There’s a reason why these two sites are the top customer engagement platforms out there. Therefore, the creative aspect of your post is crucial to its success. Make sure that you are creating a brand identity so that your posts can easily be attributed to your business, even when people don’t look at the copy. Make any text easy to read, short, sweet, and to the point. Since people tend to look at the image or video first, if you’re saying something very important or asking for customer reactions, do so in the creative rather than the copy. This makes it more likely that people will see the text. That being said, avoid using too much text in the creative, because people will scroll right past. Over time, you will become better at this customer engagement skill, and you’ll naturally avoid using text whenever possible.

Moving on to the copy of the post. Never, I repeat NEVER, use enormous blocks of text as a caption. People may stop because of your great image, but as soon as they see multiple paragraphs staring back at them, they’re going to keep scrolling and never look back. Long text is a great way to ensure you don’t get customer engagement. There’s no need to shove five pieces of information in your followers’ faces at once - split up each thought into its own post.

Involve Your Audience

Customer engagement levels shoot up when you involve them in your content. There are several ways to do this that have all proven successful. Firstly, you can use photos or reviews from your customers. User-generated content always gets a lot more engagement than stock photos or typical posts. Find posts that people have tagged your business in and repost them! Always give credit to the person who took the photo. You’ll be amazed at the spike in customer engagement these posts will get you. You don’t even have to spend time creating content! You can do the same type of thing with customer reviews. Add a nice background to the review and watch the likes, comments, and shares flood in.

When people ask us how to increase customer engagement, we always like to tell them to implement a “Customer Engagement Strategy.” In this strategy, we encourage business owners to use questions often in their posts. Much like in a lecture at college, no one will pay attention if they’re repeatedly talked at. By asking the customers questions, we give them a voice. Your audience will be happy that you want their feedback and will likely respond to whatever it is you ask. It’s important to implement your customer engagement strategy as soon as possible so that you don’t suddenly change how you post. If your audience gets used to ignoring your posts, it will be very hard to stay on brand while trying to increase your customer engagement. If you ask questions from the get-go, you will attract and foster an active audience who genuinely wants to engage with your posts.

In this episode, we’re taking a hard look at the "post-novelty" era of AI in 2026. We discuss how artificial intelligence has shifted from a front-page "magic trick" into the invisible operating system of the internet—and why that’s actually making it harder than ever for businesses to stand out.

Search visibility is no longer built through organic efforts alone. Paid media reinforces relevance, engagement, and entity recognition that generative systems rely on. Treating paid and SEO as one system creates compounding visibility instead of isolated wins.

Over-optimized automation often prioritizes volume over intent. When creative lacks human clarity, platforms chase cheap conversions that rarely convert downstream. Buyer quality depends more on message depth than algorithmic efficiency.
